KUALA — A man accused of taking Viagra and selling it online has been sentenced to five years in jail.
A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty in September to selling the erectile dysfunction drug in Malaysia, the country’s second largest country after Australia.
The man, who pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying a prescription drug, had already been convicted on charges of possession of a fake medicine in a manner that violated the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission Act.
The accused was also charged with importing from China the drug product into Malaysia and selling it to the country’s consumer.
According to the court records, the man had bought the Viagra in Malaysia in March 2007 from a Chinese supplier, and was selling the product on the internet without a prescription, in order to get the drug for himself.
The court case involved the sale of a fake Viagra tablet in Malaysia by the online seller, which was registered in Malaysia with the Ministry of Health.
The court documents, which were filed in court in April, said: “The defendants are charged with two counts of supplying and selling prescription medicines.”
